Abstract:As compact and high efficiency heat exchangers, plate-fin heat exchangers have been found widely applications in air separation, natural gas liquification, hydrogen liquification, etc. Fin is the most important component of the plate-fin heat exchanger. A poor fin manufacturing quality will directly increase the pressure drop across the heat exchanger, and thus leading to a higher energy consumption of the air separation equipment. Therefore, it is of significant to maintain the pressure drop within a predefined limit for an accepted manufacturing quality. Considering the inadequacies of low Renold number and testing efficiency for the conventional measurement devices, a novel testing system for realizing the fast examining the pressure drop characteristics based on the high-pressure compressed air and hydraulic fixture was developed. A data acquisition system was also developed based on the C# and SQL Server. The experimental results showed that the proposed measurement system could achieve the fast testing the pressure drop characteristics of plat-fin heat exchangers with a reported testing uncertainty of below 3%.
