Considering the problem of subjectivity and lower accuracy in assessment of health status, a new method of health states assessment based on DSmT and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation was proposed. Firstly, the evaluation index system of object was established and the tested data of catenary system must be dealt with. Then the method of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation was used to determine the basic belief assignment of each index, and then the basic belief assignment was combined to get the assessment results using DSmT fusion rule. For the multistage health status assessment, combined the above results as new basic belief assignments using DSmT. The practical example shows that the proposed method which can overcome the fusion problem of the high conflict evidence can get good efficiency on the system health status assessment, so it has great value in engineering application.
